Franchise Origins
Original author Kyou Shirodaira originally serialized the dark fantasy narrative in Square Enix's Monthly Shounen Gangan magazine from August 2003 to February 2007, featuring illustrative work by Yuri Kimura. Square Enix collected the chapters into nine tankoubon volumes. Later, Viz Media licensed the property for English publication under the title The Record of a Fallen Vampire, completing its run between 2008 and 2010.
There is a legend that tells of how the world was almost destroyed thousands of years ago by the vampire queen after she unleashed her latent powers. Despite their efforts, the humans were unable to defeat her, and thus resorted to sealing her away until the time came that they would be powerful enough to destroy the seal and kill her.
