Pony Canyon and animation studio Polygon Pictures have officially unveiled Maiden Blood, an ambitious original dark fantasy television anime scheduled to premiere in 2027. Reuniting veteran director Seiji Kishi (Angel Beats!) and series compositor Makoto Uezu (Assassination Classroom), the project promises a visceral narrative born from a desire to break away from traditional broadcast restrictions.
Uncompromising Vision
Development on Maiden Blood originally began during the 2020 pandemic when Uezu pitched an uncompromising action concept heavily inspired by the grim atmosphere of Western role-playing games. According to Kishi, the narrative intensity proved so severe that several early episode scripts were immediately deemed unsuitable for traditional television broadcast. The production committee is currently in active negotiations with broadcasting networks to preserve the project's raw vision without creative censorship.
The production features original character designs by LAM (Takt Op. Destiny) and sound direction by Satoki Iida. The musical score is being composed by Keiichi Okabe (Summertime Render), Kuniyuki Takahashi, and Taichi Jouraku in collaboration with music studio MONACA.
A Sanguine World
Set in the aftermath of an Armageddon triggered by an Evil God, the series depicts a world where eight billion humans were sacrificed, leaving the surviving remnants as playthings in eternal darkness. In this realm, human blood functions as currency, fuel, and a forbidden weapon forged by sorcerers to eradicate demonic entities.
Eva and Epica are sisters bound by a tragic fate in this apocalyptic nightmare. The younger sister, Eva, is a soul-shattered warrior engineered for blood combat, while the older sister, Epica, is physically paralyzed. Yet, only Epica's blood possesses the ability to awaken Eva's dormant powers to slaughter the demons corrupting their world.
The main voice cast features Iori Saeki as Eva and Yukari Anzai as Epica.
