Manga creator Uoto, the mastermind behind the award-winning historical philosophy saga Chi: On the Movements of the Earth and the track-and-field drama Hyakuem., is celebrating a decade in the manga industry with his first comprehensive solo art exhibition. Titled UO10., the retrospective event will take place at the YURAKUCHO MUSEUM in Tokyo, running from December 19, 2026, through February 23, 2027.
Organized in collaboration with the author himself, the exhibition centers around three core works: Hyakuem., Chi: On the Movements of the Earth, and Welcome to FACT (Tokyo S Ward Division 2). The installation will dissect Uoto's creative trajectory, displaying initial conceptual sketches, storyboard drafts (names), original ink pages, and the thematic inquiries that underpin his narrative structures. Uniquely, the venue will incorporate a replica of Uoto's actual workstation where the author intends to work on new serialization chapters live during gallery hours, adding fresh manuscripts to the display as they are completed.
Creative Philosophy
Reflecting on his journey, Uoto shared a detailed personal statement tracking his development from a 13-year-old drawing on manuscript paper to making his commercial debut at age 19 in 2017.
Creating manga involves many tedious moments, but when it goes well, the joy surpasses almost anything else in life. Manga creation relies on ideas in someone's head combined with physical infrastructure—paper, printing, and distribution. I hope visitors feel just how accessible, affordable, and exhilarating the act of making stories can be.
