Manga creator Uoto, best known for the philosophical historical masterpiece Chi. -On the Movements of the Earth- (Chi. -Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite-) and the track-and-field drama Hyakuem., is celebrating a decade in serialization with his first comprehensive retrospective exhibition. Titled UO10., the career-spanning event will run from December 19, 2026, through February 23, 2027, at the YURAKUCHO MUSEUM in Tokyo.
A Decade of Unconventional Narrative
Since his debut, Uoto has earned critical acclaim for his distinct thematic depth, challenging structural pacing, and narrative ambition. His flagship work, Chi., surpassed 5.7 million copies in circulation and earned widespread praise for its depiction of scientific curiosity fighting against medieval dogma. The upcoming exhibition will focus primarily on three of his milestone series: Hyakuem., Chi. -On the Movements of the Earth-, and Welcome to the FACT (Tokyo S Ward Division 2).
Visitors will be able to examine manuscript drafts, character concept sketches, early storyboard layouts (name), and structural notes that illustrate how Uoto constructs complex intellectual arguments into serialized manga form.
Live Studio Concept and Real-Time Manuscript Creation
In an unusual move for a manga retrospective, the exhibition space will feature a full replica of Uoto's actual workspace. Throughout the exhibition's run, Uoto plans to occasionally draw manuscript pages for his upcoming serialization live at the venue. Completed pages produced on-site will be added to the gallery walls in real time, giving attendees a direct look into his creative process.
