Developer Genius Sonority has officially announced that The New Denpa Men (New Denpa Ningen no RPG FREE), the charming free-to-play RPG in the long-running franchise, will conclude its service on December 7 at 11:00 JST. The development team stated that the decision came after determining it would become increasingly difficult to sustain a level of service that meets player expectations.
In response to the upcoming closure, the title has already halted all sales of in-game Jewel currency and other paid microtransactions as of Tuesday. Official representatives confirmed that further instructions detailing refunds for any remaining unused in-game currency will be published on the main website following the final shutdown.
Franchise History and Platform Legacy
The title originally debuted as a timed exclusive for the Nintendo Switch in July 2024 before expanding to iOS and Android devices, alongside a subsequent release on hardware platforms. The unique gameplay loop tasks players with utilizing device cameras to capture quirky, ambient creatures known as Denpa Men floating in their physical surroundings, assembling an adventurous party to conquer intricate dungeons.
Genius Sonority first introduced the unique property back in February 2012 with the initial Nintendo 3DS entry, which later found a global audience under the title The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave. Across multiple sequels and handheld iterations, the series carved out a dedicated cult following for its whimsical aesthetic and creative augmented-reality mechanics before transitioning into the modern free-to-play landscape.
