During The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo announced a full remake of the legendary 1998 classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled to launch on November 5, 2026. The reveal showcased completely modernized visual fidelity spanning Kokiri Forest, Hyrule Field, Castle Town, and Lon Lon Ranch, alongside fully voiced dialogue and updated combat in the Great Deku Tree dungeon.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma presented an in-depth gameplay walkthrough detailing modernized control schemes, including full free-camera movement, optional motion aiming, a dedicated jump button, and a roll-dash mechanic. Players can bind items to the ZR trigger via a quick-access wheel, while a new "Threads of Time" journal tracks quest objectives and story progression. The world also features real-time day-and-night cycles inside towns, expanded spoken dialogue, and microphone-assisted ocarina melodies.

In tandem with the remake, Nintendo revealed a special 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 console, accompanied by a matching Pro Controller and carrying case releasing on October 29. Integration with the Nintendo Switch App introduces "Zelda Notes," featuring trivia quests and score exchanges compatible with in-game currency.

The franchise milestone will also be marked by a global orchestral concert tour starting in Tokyo on January 23 before heading through North America, Europe, and Australia throughout 2027.
