Pokémon Bank for Nintendo 3DS to Shut Down in February 2027

The Pokémon Company International announced on Thursday that the Pokémon Bank Nintendo 3DS app will shut down on February 25, 2027, at 10:00 p.m. EST, just two days before the franchise's annual Pokémon Day.

Players have until that date to transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Bank to the newer cloud storage service Pokémon Home for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Following the app's closure, Pokémon from generations 3 (Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire) through 7 (Pokémon Sun/Moon) will no longer be transferable to Pokémon Home and current Nintendo Switch titles.

Additionally, the company revealed that the Nintendo Switch digital releases of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will receive Pokémon Home compatibility in October, allowing players to transfer Pokémon from those games to the storage service (though transferred Pokémon cannot be sent back).

The paid Premium Plan for Pokémon Home is also receiving an update to increase the deposit cap from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon, with no change to the subscription price.

Nintendo previously shut down the 3DS and Wii U eShop in March 2023, meaning players who did not already own Pokémon Bank can no longer purchase or download the application. Originally launched in Japan in December 2013 and globally in early 2014, Pokémon Bank served as a vital bridge for moving legacy monsters across generations.
