Manga creator Masaki Andō announced on Friday that the Mojiponika! comedy manga series will reach its conclusion in the upcoming issue of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine on November 25. The series has charmed readers with its eccentric premise combining linguistics, embroidery, and cinematic yakuza culture since its debut.
The narrative follows Tsumugu, the son of an embroidery shop owner, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Gina. A foreign exchange student obsessed with kanji characters and classic yakuza films, Gina pays Tsumugu a substantial sum to stitch intricate kanji onto her traditional tokkōfuku gang uniform. Though Tsumugu initially struggled with reading certain ideograms, Gina's fierce passion ultimately sparks a genuine appreciation for the rich meanings hidden within the characters.
