A special website has officially opened to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Inu x Boku SS television anime adaptation. Alongside this milestone reveal, heartfelt commemorative statements have poured in from the primary voice cast and key production staff, while a dedicated anniversary stage event has been locked in for the upcoming Kitakyushu Pop Culture Festival.
Originally serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Gangan Joker starting in May 2009 by the late creator Cocoa Fujiwara, Inu x Boku SS blends supernatural folklore with eccentric urban romantic comedy. Set within the ultra-exclusive Maison de Ayakashi apartment building—colloquially known as the Ayakashikan—the narrative follows humans bearing the ancestral traits of Yōkai living alongside their assigned Secret Service bodyguards. The property's distinctive premise and unique character dynamics brought widespread acclaim, culminating in the television anime broadcast directed by Naokatsu Tsuda and animated by David Production in January 2012.
Anniversary Stage and Special Site
To kick off the year-long celebrations, the newly launched 15th-anniversary portal will serve as the central hub for upcoming project announcements, special merchandise previews, and archival retrospectives. Marking the first major live appearance for the anniversary, the Kitakyushu Pop Culture Festival will host a dedicated Inu x Boku SS anniversary stage on November 28 and 29. Rina Hidaka, who voices the haughty yet vulnerable main heroine Ririchiyo Shirakiin, and Yoko Hikasa, the voice of the stylish Nobara Yukinokouji, are scheduled to take the stage and share memories from the production.
The milestone portal also delivered extensive commentary from the ensemble cast. Rina Hidaka reflected on her time on the project, noting how the lessons learned during recording sessions remain central to her voice acting career. Yuichi Nakamura, who portrayed the devoted Fox spirit Soushi Miketsukami, expressed gentle astonishment at the rapid passage of time, remarking on the raw passion poured into the studio performances. Additional reflections arrived from Yoshimasa Hosoya (Renshou Sorinozuka), Yoko Hikasa, Takuya Eguchi (Banri Watanuki), Mamoru Miyano (Natsume Zange), Tomokazu Sugita (Kagerou Shoukiin), and Kana Hanazawa (Karuta Roromiya), alongside industry veterans director Naokatsu Tsuda and character designer Haruko Iizuka.
With ongoing fan devotion keeping Cocoa Fujiwara's distinctive supernatural universe alive across multiple generations, the 15th-anniversary initiatives promise to honor a seminal work of early 2010s dark fantasy romance.
