Japanese broadcasting network Fuji TV has officially confirmed that Oreco Tachibana's acclaimed historical romance web manga Hotaru no Yomeiri (Firefly Wedding) is set to receive a live-action television adaptation. Alongside the adaptation announcement, network producers debuted an official promotional video, locking in a premiere window for 2027.
First launched by Tachibana on Shogakukan's MangaONE platform in January 2023, the narrative has steadily captured readers with its dark historical tension and intense psychological drama. The series recently approached its narrative climax, with the twelfth collected volume hitting shelves on June 19 and the thirteenth and final volume scheduled for release on October 19.
Plot & Premise
Set within a tense historical landscape, the story follows Satoko, the eldest daughter of the distinguished Kirigaya family. Celebrated for her striking beauty and refined grace, Satoko has repeatedly turned down marriage proposals from suitors. Her reluctance, however, stems from a guarded secret: a severe heart defect that limits her lifespan. Desperate to secure a stable future and relieve her father's anxieties, she searches for a pragmatic match.
Her life takes a dangerous turn during a routine evening stroll when she is abducted by a faction of mercenaries. Among them is Shinpei Gotou, a ruthless and legendary assassin hired to execute her. Cornered and facing imminent death, Satoko makes a desperate gamble. Feigning an immediate, passionate infatuation, she offers him a counter-proposal: marry her instead.
