Based on Oreco Tachibana’s acclaimed manga, the upcoming TV anime Hotaru no Yomeiri is officially scheduled to premiere on October 9, 2026. The dark romance thriller follows Satoko Kirigaya, a young aristocratic woman with limited time left to live, and Shinpei Goto, an enigmatic assassin sent to end her life. Following a fateful encounter, the two become entangled in an unpredictable and high-stakes survival romance.
Ahead of the broadcast, lead voice actors Lynn (Satoko Kirigaya) and Koki Uchiyama (Shinpei Goto) sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss securing their iconic roles, building the complex chemistry between the protagonists, and their standout moments in the recording booth.
Embodying the Characters
Approaching a series with over 5 million copies in circulation brought unique creative hurdles. Lynn admitted feeling the weight of audience expectations. “Everyone has their own ideal version of Satoko and Shinpei in their heads,” she noted. “Translating that into animation is quite a challenge, so my goal was to deliver a Satoko that resonates with as many fans as possible.”
Koki Uchiyama shared a similar perspective on tackling the multifaceted assassin. “With so many passionate readers, my focus was ensuring the adaptation respects their expectations while staying true to the material,” he explained. He emphasized that Shinpei requires a careful balance of terrifying intensity, genuine vulnerability, and unpredictable shifts in demeanor.
Discussing their collaborative dynamic, Lynn praised how Uchiyama’s vocal performance anchors the surreal elements of the narrative. “Shinpei is an intense and otherworldly figure, but Koki’s voice grounds him, making him feel alarmingly real,” she said. Uchiyama, meanwhile, highlighted the ongoing power struggle between the two leads as their relationship transforms, commending Lynn for capturing Satoko’s aristocratic grace and unyielding inner grit.
