The highly anticipated historical romance suspense adaptation Hotaru no Yomeiri has officially scheduled its broadcast debut. Set to premiere on October 9, 2026, across Fuji TV's prestigious Noitamina block, the series has shared a brand-new key visual alongside preview stills and synopsis details for the opening episode, titled Unwanted Return of a Favor.
Based on the acclaimed manga by Oreco Tachibana—whose previous works include Promise Cinderella—the series has surpassed five million circulating copies and secured high praise among digital comic readers. The animation is helmed by david production, with Takahiro Kamei taking the director's chair. The voice cast features Lynn as the terminally ill count's daughter Satoko Kirigaya, and Kouki Uchiyama as the devoted assassin Shinpei Goto, alongside Kenjiro Tsuda and Kent Ito in supporting roles.
Set during an era where women were treated primarily as family assets, the narrative follows Satoko, a noblewoman given only months to live whose ultimate aspiration is to bring honor to her father. Following a sudden abduction orchestrated by unknown figures, she crosses paths with the cold-blooded killer Shinpei. To survive certain doom, Satoko makes a desperate bargain: "Let us marry. If you take me with you, everything you desire will be yours."
As Shinpei becomes dangerously infatuated with her as his destined partner, Satoko finds herself torn between her personal mission and growing feelings for the assassin.
