The 45th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine has officially confirmed that Keigo Shinzō's acclaimed slice-of-life manga Hirayasumi will reach its conclusion in just two more chapters. Unless unexpected schedule interruptions occur, the series will wrap up its heartwarming run on October 19.
Launched by Shinzō in April 2021 within the pages of Weekly Big Comic Spirits, the narrative centers on 29-year-old Hiroto Ikuta, a carefree spirit who embraces a slow-paced lifestyle without a traditional full-time job or rigid career trajectory. Alongside his 18-year-old art student cousin Natsumi, who moves in with him, the series explores themes of modern anxiety, grief, and generational connection. Shogakukan published the 10th compiled volume this past April, pushing the total global circulation past 1.1 million copies.
Critical Acclaim and Multi-Media Adaptations
Over its four-year serialization, Hirayasumi earned substantial critical recognition across the Japanese publishing landscape. The manga received a nomination for the 15th Manga Taisho Awards in January 2022, secured the 18th spot in Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook for 2023, and earned nods at both the 27th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize and the American Manga Awards.
The franchise's cultural footprint extends well beyond its print origins. Viz Media licenses the manga in English, while the property inspired a live-action series that premiered on NHK in November 2025. Furthermore, an upcoming television anime adaptation—co-produced by Viz Media, Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, and Production +h.—is scheduled to debut on NHK General in January 2027.
