The November issue of Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Zero-Sum magazine revealed that Anko Chōchin's supernatural manga adaptation Kuri Hime Ayakashi Yobanashi will reach its conclusion in the following issue on October 28. Based on the original novel series by Hyuganatsu—widely recognized for creating The Apothecary Diaries—the series has captivated readers with its blend of folklore and quiet scholarly mystery.
Folklore and Shrine Secrets
The narrative follows Kinuko, a part-time college lecturer specializing in traditional weaving and Japanese cultural studies. She resides in an unconventional weaver's hut situated on the sacred grounds of Tamamayu Shrine. Though her living situation is unorthodox, she is supported by a wealthy patron family alongside two young children, Shiro and Kuro, who frequently bring her meals. However, Kinuko gradually uncovers unsettling signs that she is sharing her domestic space with supernatural entities.
Creator Pedigree
Anko Chōchin launched the manga serialization in Monthly Comic Zero-Sum in December 2024. Publisher Ichijinsha released the first compiled volume in July 2025, followed by the second volume on April 30. Author Hyuganatsu initially published the foundational story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform under the title Otsukaresan Desu, Gokurō Sama before print publication by MyNavi Publishing in 2016 with illustrations by Munashitsu. Hyuganatsu's broader literary footprint continues to expand significantly across the industry, most notably through The Apothecary Diaries and The Failure at God School.
