Readers of psychological mystery and crime fiction will soon witness the conclusion of a modern classic. The December issue of Hakusensha's Melody magazine has officially announced that Reiko Shimizu's Himitsu Season 0 manga will launch its final narrative arc in the magazine's February 2027 issue, hitting newsstands on December 25.
Spinoff Legacy
Acting as a direct narrative precursor to Shimizu's celebrated Himitsu - Top Secret series, Himitsu Season 0 initially debuted within the pages of Melody back in October 2012. The series explores the formative years and backstories of key investigators—specifically focusing on Agent Maki before the harrowing events of the original timeline. Following a notable two-year hiatus that began in August 2021 for research and preparation, the manga triumphantly returned in October 2023, eventually compiling its twelfth tankōbon volume through Hakusensha this past July.
Franchise Impact
Shimizu's intricate storytelling and exploration of memory-scanning forensic science have left a lasting footprint across Japanese media. The original manga previously inspired a 2008 television anime adaptation titled Top Secret ~The Revelation~ produced by studio Madhouse, alongside multiple live-action cinematic and television adaptations over the years, most recently a television series that debuted in January 2025.
