During its panel at New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll revealed major updates regarding the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (Ghost of Tsushima: Kuroudo Kitan) anime series. Originally slated for a 2027 debut, the ambitious adaptation has been pushed back to 2028. Alongside the release window shift, producers lifted the veil on the core voice cast, welcoming industry veterans Mayumi Sako and Shinya Fukumatsu to the ensemble.
Animation production is spearheaded by Kamikaze Douga, renowned for their striking visual stylization in Star Wars: Visions ("The Duel") and Batman Ninja. Directing duties are handled by Takanobu Mizuno, working from scripts crafted by Satoshi Maejima and legendary writer Gen Urobuchi. Character designs are provided by Takashi Okazaki, ensuring an aesthetic that honors the gritty, mythos-heavy roots of the Sucker Punch Productions video game universe. Production oversight is managed by HAYATE Inc., with collaboration from Aniplex and Sony Music serving as the official music and soundtrack partner.
The creative roster expands further with renowned composer Keiji Inai handling the musical score, sound direction by Yoshikazu Iwanami, and sound design by Yasumasa Koyama. Additionally, master calligrapher Gyousyou Suzuki lent his expertise to the project's official typography. While the original 2020 game anchored itself in historical dramatizations of the 1274 Mongol invasion, the Legends multiplayer expansion leans heavily into traditional Japanese folklore and mythology, setting the stage for a distinct supernatural atmosphere in this upcoming television format.
