Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sucker Punch Productions' critically acclaimed samurai epic is making the leap to serialized animation. During a Crunchyroll panel at New York Comic Con, it was announced that the Ghost of Tsushima Legends (Ghost of Tsushima: Kuraudo Kitan) anime adaptation is officially scheduled for a 2028 premiere. Attendees at the panel were treated to an exclusive first look at early animation footage currently in production.
Based on the multiplayer Legends expansion of the hit open-world action-adventure game, the series transports viewers back to the late thirteenth-century Bunei era. As the Mongol Empire's vast armada sweeps across Tsushima Island, the local samurai fall in a brutal initial onslaught. Amidst utter devastation, mythical warriors known as the Ghosts rise from the afterlife to defend the island, guided by a mysterious narrator weaving a brand-new legend of resistance.
All-Star Creative Lineup
The adaptation brings together an extraordinary roster of visionary creators. Directing the project is Takanobu Mizuno, working alongside series composition writer Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus) and writer Ken Maeshima (Nitroplus). Character designs are crafted by Emmy Award-winning artist Takashi Okazaki. Animation production is handled by Kamikaze Douga, known for their distinct visual stylings and dynamic motion work.
Musical and audio landscapes are equally robust. Keiji Inai—recognized for his work on Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? and Star Wars: Visions – The Duel—provides the sweeping, atmospheric score. Sound direction is spearheaded by Yoshikazu Iwanami, with sound effects by Komasan Koyama. Additionally, master calligrapher Gyosho Suzuki has penned the striking kanji logo for the series, lending a tangible sense of ancient majesty to the title treatment.
Production and Cast Updates
Produced by HAYATE in association with PlayStation Productions, the project has also confirmed its initial voice cast, adding Mayumi Sako and Shinya Fukumatsu to the roster. As production continues toward the 2028 release window, anticipation remains exceptionally high for this dark, supernatural reimagining of Tsushima's folklore.
