Aniplex has released the first character promotional trailer for Type-Moon studio BB's long-awaited remake Fate/Extra Record. The footage spotlights the iconic Servant Saber, voiced by Sakura Tange, showcasing modernized visuals and updated combat systems for the classic PSP dungeon crawler. Following an extended period of development hurdles and publisher transitions, the game is officially set to release on January 28 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam.
The release roadmap includes both physical and digital editions. The physical Limited Edition packages a three-disc soundtrack, a SteelBook case, and an artbook, while the Digital Deluxe Edition offers arranged BGM tracks, a costume bundle for Servants and players, and digital collectible materials. Europe and Australia distribution will be handled by Marvelous Europe.
A Troubled Development History
First announced in July 2020 to mark the tenth anniversary of the original 2010 PlayStation Portable title, Fate/Extra Record has navigated significant internal shifts. The project faced indefinite delays after Notes (Type-Moon's corporate parent) and Bandai Namco Entertainment mutually severed their publishing agreement, prompting Aniplex to step in as publisher. Former studio head and original producer Kazuya Nino also stepped down from his position due to personal health concerns. Despite these leadership and structural changes, key original staff like character designer Arco Wada remain attached to preserve the signature aesthetic of the Extraverse continuity.
