A new expansion to the sci-fi universe created by director Seiji Mizushima and writer Gen Urobuchi is officially on the horizon. A fresh promotional video has been released for Expelled from Paradise -The Stellar Angel- (Rakuen Tsuihō -The Stellar Angel-), an upcoming visual novel developed by Studio51 that extends the narrative of the acclaimed 2014 original film.
Written by Shotaro Teshirogi, who previously penned the mission.0 prequel novel, the game tells an original story set in A.D. 2400. Decades after the devastating Nano Hazard forced 98% of humanity to upload their minds to the virtual realm DEVA, a new threat called the Paraflora begins spreading rapidly across Earth's surface alongside giant sandworms. Players control an agent investigating the ghost town of Svarga, where multiple factions collide over stolen classified data.
Interactive Decision Mechanics and Dual Language Support
Gameplay in Expelled from Paradise -The Stellar Angel- hinges on the newly introduced "K2-System", which branches the story depending on player choices categorized into Kizuna (Bonds) and Kakugo (Resolve). Kizuna choices strengthen protagonist Angela Balzac's connections on Earth's surface, while Kakugo choices test her unwavering commitment to DEVA's mission. These choices directly affect story routes and unlock multiple endings, including bad ends. The visual novel features full voice acting across major storyline scenes and will release globally on November 26 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, complete with full English and Japanese text support.
Cinematic Sequel On Track for Theaters
The visual novel release serves as a prelude to Rakuen Tsuihō -Expelled from Paradise- Kokoro no Resonance (Heart's Resonance), the upcoming theatrical anime feature film slated to open in Japan on November 13. Produced by Toei Animation, the feature film brings back the original core creative team:
- Director: Seiji Mizushima
- Screenplay: Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus)
- Character Design: Masatsugu Saitō
- Music: NARASAKI
- Main Cast: Rie Kugimiya as Angela Balzac, alongside Ayane Sakura, Saori Hayami, Yoshino Aoyama, Sally Amaki, and Sumire Morohoshi
The original 2014 feature won Best Animation of the Year at the 24th Japan Movie Critics Awards, establishing a high benchmark for CG-animated storytelling. More details and official updates can be found on the official game website.
