Retail listings indicate that Satoshi Shiki and Chabo Higurashi's Casshern R manga will conclude with the release of its third compiled book volume on December 18. The publication brings a swift closure to the contemporary retelling of Tatsunoko Production’s iconic 1973 sci-fi classic, Shinzō Ningen Casshan.
The narrative follows Tetsuya Azuma as he transforms into the cyborg warrior Casshern to wage war against the mechanized forces of humanity's existential adversary, Andro. Originally launched in Akita Shoten's Monthly Champion RED in September 2023 with scripts by Higurashi, the series transitioned to the Manga Cross web platform following a relocation announced by Shiki, eventually resuming serialization in April 2025.
A Legacy of Cyborg Action
Tatsunoko Production's foundational 1973 anime set a dark, atmospheric standard for heroic mecha storytelling that has inspired multiple reinterpretations over the decades. Notable adaptations include the 1993 original video animation Casshan: Robot Hunter, Kazuaki Kiriya's ambitious 2004 live-action feature film, and Madhouse's visually striking 2008 television series Casshern Sins.
For Satoshi Shiki, finishing Casshern R follows a productive streak of high-profile manga adaptations and reimaginings. The creator previously wrapped up Akuma Kōjo in May 2024 and completed the widely read Attack on Titan: Before the Fall manga in March 2019, alongside ongoing international recognition for works like The Legend of Dororo and Hyakkimaru.
