Creator Arata Aki is returning to the pages of Kadokawa's Comic Gene magazine with an eccentric new series. The official X account for the publication announced that Aki will debut a brand-new manga titled Enma Note: Jigoku Idol Project (Enma Note: Hell Idol Project) in the October issue.
The narrative introduces a uniquely absurd premise, following the perpetually overworked denizens of hell whose workloads spiral after a sudden influx of souls. To combat exhaustion and reinvigorate the realm's residents, the underworld organizes high-stakes idol auditions exclusively for the young men of hell, all in the name of cultivating misplaced hope.
Aki is widely recognized by comedy enthusiasts for previous serialized works, most notably A Destructive God Sits Next to Me (Boku no Tonari ni Ankoku Hakaishin ga Imasu.), which ran in Monthly Comic Gene from 2013 to 2020 and inspired a 12-episode television anime adaptation co-produced and streamed by Crunchyroll. More recently, Aki launched Kawaii Sekai Seifuku (Cute World Domination) in April 2022.
