Based on the acclaimed light novel series written by Natsu Hyuuga and illustrated by Touko Shino, published via Imagica Infos' Hero Bunko imprint, the mystery series has surpassed 57 million copies in global circulation. The narrative follows Maomao, an astute young herbalist thrust into the complex politics and hidden dangers of the imperial inner court, where she applies her profound knowledge of poisons and remedies to solve intricate puzzles.
Following the broadcast of the second season throughout 2025, the third season expands its scope beyond the palace walls into the bustling commercial district. Maomao and the influential eunuch Lihuan face unprecedented civic challenges, including looming natural disasters, mysterious shrines, and new responsibilities tied to imperial lineage.
Episode 51 Preview and Story Details
In the upcoming episode, an unkempt man approaches Maomao's apothecary during the early morning hours, begging her to examine his ailing daughter. Reluctantly, Maomao agrees to accompany him into the labyrinthine alleys near the pleasure district, guided by the Viridian House's head guard, Ukyou.
Upon arriving at a dilapidated shack, they find a frail older sister slumped over and her younger sibling in a state of exhaustion. The elder sister explains that she fed her sibling a baked pastry given to her as charity by a beggar. The sheer extravagance of such a treat immediately sparks Maomao's clinical suspicion.
Animation production for the third season is handled by studio OLM under the direction of Akinori Fudesaka.
