The official website for the television anime adaptation of artist Kyōtarō Azuma and author Yōsuke Nakamaru's Tenkaichi: The Greatest Warrior Under the Rising Sun (Tenkaichi: Nihon Saikyō Bugeisha Ketteisen) manga opened on Thursday, revealing a teaser promotional video, teaser visual, main cast, staff members, and an April 2027 debut.
The anime stars the following main cast:
- Gen Sato as Miyamoto Musashi
- Kenichirō Matsuda as Honda Tadakatsu
- Kenyū Horiuchi as Oda Nobunaga
Masashi Abe (Casshan: Robot Hunter Casshern) is directing the anime at Fugaku. Kazuharu Sato is in charge of series scripts, Ryōji Nakamori (Hellsing Ultimate) is designing the characters, and Hayato Matsuo (Hellsing Ultimate) is composing the music.
Kodansha's K MANGA service publishes the manga in English and describes the story: "The year is 1600. Ten years have passed since Oda Nobunaga unified the whole of Japan. When Nobunaga realizes he is nearing the end of his life, he announces that he will hand over the reins of power to whoever brings him the strongest warrior. The generals put up their own strongest warriors... The first match is peerless spear wielder Honda Tadakatsu vs. evolving prodigy Miyamoto Musashi!!"
The manga launched in Kodansha's Young Magazine the 3rd in January 2021 before moving to Monthly Young Magazine. Kodansha will publish the 14th compiled book volume on August 20.
