Madhouse has officially marked the third anniversary of the Sousou no Frieren anime adaptation with a poignant commemorative visual bridging the past and present parties of the beloved fantasy journey. Alongside this celebration, the production committee has initiated an official countdown illustration project leading directly into the highly anticipated premiere of Season 3, subtitled the Golden Land Arc, scheduled for October 2027 on Nippon TV and affiliated networks.
Bridging Past and Present Parties
The anniversary illustration features the modern trio of Frieren, Fern, and Stark celebrating with the comically oversized hamburger immortalized during Stark's birthday in Episode 12 of the first season. Reflected softly in the windowpane behind them are the ghosts of Frieren's past: Himmel the Hero, the priest Heiter, the warrior Eisen, and a younger Frieren. This temporal juxtaposition offers a striking emotional nod to the central themes of mortality and memory that define Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's manga, currently serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday with over 35 million copies in circulation worldwide.
The Road to the Golden Land Arc
Building upon the massive global success of the first two seasons—which consistently dominated streaming charts and social media trends—Season 3 will adapt the acclaimed Golden Land Arc. To tide fans over during the wait, Madhouse launched a sequential countdown illustration project. The inaugural piece, unveiled to mark exactly one year until the premiere, was drawn by character designer Keisuke Kojima. It depicts Frieren proudly holding a grimoire titled "A spell to make Season 3 air in one year," setting a charming tone for the months ahead.
Production returns with director Tomoya Kitagawa, assistant director Daiki Harashina, series composition writer Tomohiro Suzuki, and composer Evan Call under the banner of studio Madhouse. As the countdown ticks down toward October 2027, the journey of the elf mage continues to captivate audiences around the globe.
