Netflix and Sega have officially forged a major multi-title collaboration, bringing three distinct video game properties to life across film and television. The ambitious slate includes a live-action feature adaptation of the arcade classic Crazy Taxi, a brand-new animated series tailored for upper preschoolers within the Sonic the Hedgehog universe, and a live-action crime drama inspired by Ryu ga Gotoku Studio's upcoming title Stranger Than Heaven.
Creative Talent and Production Pedigree
The upcoming Crazy Taxi live-action comedy film is being penned by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, recognized for their work on the Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers film and the upcoming The Naked Gun reboot. Production duties are spearheaded by Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher, who previously worked on the hit Sonic the Hedgehog film adaptations, alongside Sega's Toru Nakahara.
Meanwhile, the new preschool-focused Sonic the Hedgehog animated project is being produced by Carlos Stevens, known for his work on Love, Death + Robots, alongside Nakahara. Nakahara is also taking on the producer role for the live-action adaptation of Ryu ga Gotoku Studio's Stranger Than Heaven.
Expanding Franchise Horizons
This partnership arrives as Sega continues to broaden its multimedia footprint. The upcoming racing game entry Crazy Taxi: World Tour is slated to launch in 2027 across multiple platforms, following in the footsteps of previous animated endeavors like Sonic Prime on Netflix. Additionally, Ryu ga Gotoku Studio's Stranger Than Heaven is scheduled for release in January for current-generation consoles and PC, further intertwining Sega's gaming and cinematic ambitions.
