The official website for Shin Oishinbo, the ambitious television anime adaptation of Tetsu Kariya and Akira Hanasaki's legendary culinary manga, has expanded its roster. The production team announced six major supporting cast members and confirmed the musical artists behind the upcoming series' theme songs, setting the stage for its 2027 debut.
Yui Makino has been selected to perform the opening theme song titled "PROMISE ME," while the soulful band Skoop on Somebody will deliver the ending theme song "Akashi" (Proof). These musical additions join a robust production pipeline led by director Ken'ichi Nishida at animation studios Synergy SP and Vega Entertainment, with series scripts penned by Takahiro Nagano and character designs handled by Nozomi Kawashige under Shinei Animation's overall production management.
Extended Editorial Cast Roster
The newly unveiled cast members flesh out the bustling newsroom environment of the Tōzai Shimbun, where the central gastronomic rivalry takes place:
Tōru Furusawa steps into the role of Hideo Tanimura, deputy editor-in-chief and Culture Department manager. Kōsuke Echigoya joins as Tomio Tomii, the culture department's deputy manager, while Nobuo Tobita voices Taizō Ōhara, the overarching owner of the publication. Rounding out the corporate and journalistic staff are Hiroshi Naka as editor-in-chief Kyōichi Koizumi, Kyō Yaoya as reporter Kinue Arakawa, and Hiroko Ushida as fellow reporter Noriko Mitani.
Originally launched in 1983 by publisher Shogakukan, the parent Oishinbo manga chronicle famously follows the generational and culinary clash between protagonist Shirō Yamaoka and his demanding father Yūzan Kaibara across rival gastronomic projects. With the previous television adaptation having run from 1988 to 1992, this modern revival promises to reintroduce contemporary audiences to the intricate world of Japanese culinary arts.
