Kota Kawae’s breakout supernatural hit Nue's Exorcist (Nue no Onmyouji) is officially making the jump to television. Shueisha announced that a TV anime adaptation is slated to premiere in Summer 2027, broadcasting across TV Asahi’s nationwide network. Alongside the major greenlight, production teams revealed an atmospheric key visual, a pair of promotional trailers, and the primary voice cast.
Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since May 2023, the dark fantasy manga follows high schooler Gakuro Yojima, a young man capable of perceiving supernatural entities known as genyou. His ordinary routine shatters when he discovers a concealed room within his high school, inhabited by Nue—a subculture-loving, mysterious female spirit who has waited generations for someone to find her. With a cumulative circulation exceeding 1.6 million copies as of April 2026, the series has garnered widespread acclaim, capturing top spots in several major reader rankings.
A-List Creative Talent Behind the Project
Animation production will be handled by Studio Hibari, known for their work on Classroom of the Elite and Tougen Anki. The series is directed by Hiroyuki Hashimoto (Is the Order a Rabbit?), bringing a distinct eye for character dynamics. Meanwhile, scriptwriting duties are shouldered by veteran series composer Koji Seto (Jujutsu Kaisen, DanDaDan), and character designs are adapted by Shumpei Mochizuki.
The initial teaser trailers showcase musical compositions by MONACA, giving audiences a first listen to the voice acting performances. Kai Miura steps into the lead role as Gakuro Yojima, starring alongside Saori Onishi as the titular Nue and Sayumi Suzushiro as Nanakasa Suo. With heavy-hitting talent across every department, expectations for this 2027 adaptation are remarkably high.
