Shueisha's flagship publication has greenlit another supernatural hit for the screen. Nue's Exorcist (Nue no Onmyouji), the supernatural high school battle series by manga artist Kota Kawae, is officially receiving a television anime adaptation.
The announcement arrived alongside a first-look teaser trailer that showcases the initial aesthetic direction for the animated adaptation. Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since May 2023, Kawae's work quickly carved out a dedicated following through its blend of classic exorcism combat, tactical sealing rituals, and spirited school-life dynamics.
Supernatural Warfare
The story follows high schooler Gakuro Yajima, a timid teenager who possesses the innate ability to perceive malevolent spirits known as Phantom Kegare. After an encounter with Nue—a legendary, mischievous phantom dwelling within a sealed room in his school—Yajima receives spectral weaponry and steps into the dangerous hierarchy of contemporary exorcists.
Further details regarding the animation studio, director, lead voice cast, and release window will be disclosed in forthcoming issues of Weekly Shonen Jump.
