Nene Azuki's celebrated drama manga Mii-chan to Yamada-san (Mii-chan and Miss Yamada) has officially drawn its serialization to a close. Publisher Kodansha confirmed through its Magazine Pocket app announcement that the series concluded with its 37th chapter. The seventh and final collected volume is set to hit shelves on September 9, bringing a definitive end to the emotional two-year run.
Since its launch on Magazine Pocket, the series has struck a powerful chord with readers, capturing both critical prestige and massive commercial success. The manga currently boasts over 3 million copies in circulation and earned fourth place in the male readers' category for the prestigious Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2026 guidebook, alongside a nomination for the 50th Kodansha Manga Awards in the General category. Overseas fans won't have to wait long to experience the story on paper, as Seven Seas Entertainment has officially licensed the title for an English release starting December 8.
The Road to 2027
While the manga's publication journey has concluded, the franchise's story is far from over. Kodansha previously confirmed that a television anime adaptation is officially in production, scheduled to premiere in 2027.
In the heart of Shinjuku, Yamada balances university life with her work as a nightclub hostess. When she meets Mii-chan—a petite, clumsy young woman ridiculed by those around her—Yamada finds herself irresistibly drawn to Mii-chan's bright energy, igniting a deep yet tragic friendship within the city's neon-lit shadows.
With its blend of raw human vulnerability and atmospheric nightlife drama, the upcoming anime adaptation promises to bring Azuki's poignant narrative to a whole new audience.
