Author Hirokazu Yasuhara has confirmed that the charming slice-of-life comedy manga Game Center Shoujo to Ibunka Kouryuu, known in English as Cultural Exchange With Game Center Girl, is reaching its natural conclusion. The series wraps up its serialization with the publication of its 153rd chapter, culminating in a 12th collected volume scheduled for release on October 9.
This milestone marks the end of a six-year creative journey for Yasuhara, who initially introduced the concept as a one-shot in Shueisha's Jump GIGA magazine in February 2019 before serializing it on Kadokawa's Dra-Dra Sharp# portal in May 2020. The heartwarming dynamic between the arcade clerk Renji and the British visitor Lily earned the franchise a dedicated following, eventually expanding into a 12-episode television anime adaptation by studio Nomad that aired in Summer 2025.
The Arcade Romance
The narrative follows 18-year-old university student Renji Kusakabe, whose part-time job at a local arcade intersects with Lily Baker, a British visitor struggling with a claw machine. What begins as a helpful gesture spirals into an unexpected romance when Lily misinterprets the gift as a romantic confession, sparking a delightful cross-cultural exchange built around language lessons, arcade games, and quiet companionship.
Even though Lily seems wary of Renji at first, she soon takes an interest in him. Not long after, they begin a cultural exchange, teaching each other their languages and traditions.
MAL Rewrite, Synopsis
With the final volume arriving in October, readers and viewers alike can look back on a cozy franchise that successfully bridged arcade culture with gentle romantic comedy.
