Bandai Namco Filmworks has officially confirmed that Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO will premiere in April 2027 across North America and Japan. Positioned as a major pillar of the multimedia "RG Project," the series is slated for a simultaneous global television broadcast. Acclaimed director Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East) leads the production at Sola Animation, partnering with celebrated sci-fi novelist Toh Enjoe (Godzilla Singular Point) on speculative world-building and narrative construction.
A New Epoch in the Gundam Canon
The upcoming series forms the narrative foundation of the RG Project—a next-generation multimedia initiative designed to launch a brand-new universe within the Gundam franchise, completely distinct from Bandai's "Real Grade" plastic model line. The project's narrative scope extends into interactive media with the upcoming game Gundam Rogue Orbit, scheduled to release in March 2027. Set 90 years after the events of XARX-ZERO, the title suggests an expansive timeline designed for long-term lore development across multiple media formats.
Creative Team and Voice Cast
Voice actor Takeo Ōtsuka steps into the lead role as Ray Azumi, a war orphan who lost his parents during an event known as the Apocalypse and serves as the designated pilot of the Gundam Zero. Mechanical design duties are spearheaded by Eiichi Shimizu (Linebarrels of Iron, 2011 Ultraman manga), while STATO drafted original character concepts adapted for animation by chief animation director Miyako Takasu. The musical score will be composed by Gō Shiina (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba), with Joseph Chou and Yasufumi Kobashi producing.
