Cyberpunk mastermind Masamune Shirow is officially expanding his legendary sci-fi universe with a brand-new series titled GLITCH WITCH. Serializing on Kodansha's YanMaga Web platform, the project shares the exact timeline and universe of the iconic 1989 franchise Ghost in the Shell.
Set against the backdrop of April 10, 2029—just as Major Motoko Kusanagi and Chief Aramaki are laying the groundwork for Public Security Section 9—the narrative shifts its lens to the United States. As federal agencies, military forces, and AI researchers scramble to contain a wave of mysterious incidents, they find themselves caught in the crossfire between Project 2501 (the Puppet Master) and a high-stakes Solomon-class AI.
Creative Forces
For this new cyberpunk chapter, Masamune Shirow takes direct charge of the script and character designs. Meanwhile, illustration duties are handled by Naoki Azuma, known for his work on The Undying Kamikaze and Keishichou Soushi. Together, they craft a narrative designed to bridge pivotal lore elements from the original cyber-espionage classic into a fresh era of speculative action.
