Webtoon, web novel, and manga platform Manta announced a major expansion strategy, confirming that it will open its ecosystem to independent creators starting November 16, 2026. Operated by RIDI, the platform is introducing a dedicated independent section equipped with a creator studio, empowering self-publishing artists and writers to establish author profiles, upload serialized episodes directly, and build direct connections with global reader communities.
The initiative aims to cultivate grassroots talent, offering creators a pathway to reach wider audiences with eventual monetization structures and potential opportunities for standout titles to transition into Manta's official catalog. Existing serialized series will remain unaffected, with independent works housed in a separate, dedicated catalog category.
The Tapas Migration Initiative
Following the unexpected shutdown announcement from competitor Tapas—scheduled to wind down service entirely by March 31, 2027—Manta launched the "Move Your Bookshelf" (MYB) migration program. This initiative allows readers to recover eligible series where they unlocked at least 10 episodes on Tapas, rebuilding their digital libraries on Manta free of charge.
Participants must submit an uncut screen recording of their Tapas purchase history alongside specified episode ranges through an online application form. Approved titles are automatically credited to the reader's Manta account in identical formatting to original releases.
Global Simultaneous Releases
Expanding its international release strategy, Manta debuted From the Burnt Ashes by Jeung-ji Ma on October 5 as a platform exclusive. The series marks Manta's inaugural "Global Release," establishing simultaneous worldwide serialization across both Manta and RIDI to ensure synchronized chapter premieres for international fans.
