The dark fantasy survival phenomenon returns to television screens as the Magical Girl Raising Project Restart anime officially debuts. Streaming platform OceanVeil has begun broadcasting the television adaptation based on Asari Endō's acclaimed light novel series, bringing a fresh wave of brutal magical girl competition back to viewers worldwide.
Production Shift and Returning Staff
While studio Lerche handled the original 2016 television anime adaptation, this new iteration moves production to studio Synergy SP. Despite the studio change, several key creative pillars are returning to preserve the dark atmosphere of the franchise. Hiroyuki Hashimoto returns as director, joined by scriptwriter Takao Yoshioka and sound director Satoki Iida. Character designs are being handled by Masako Itou, adapting the original illustrations by Maruino.
The series features an expansive voice cast including Yoshino Nanjō as Pfle, Reina Kondo as Shadow Gale, Fairouz Ai as Masked Wonder, M.A.O as Rionetta, Maaya Uchida as Magical Daisy, and Aoi Yūki as Lapis Lazuline, alongside Nao Tōyama reprising her role as Snow White from the original series. Minori Chihara performs the opening theme song "No tears here," while Daisy×Daisy provides the ending theme "ReMind."
Franchise Origins and Survival Game Roots
Asari Endō launched the original Mahō Shōjo Ikusei Keikaku light novel series through Takarajimasha's imprint in June 2012, with Yen Press handling the English publication. The narrative centers on a social game where select players acquire extraordinary magical capabilities. However, a administrative decree forces the magical girls to compete in a deadly battle for survival, turning a magical society into a grim test of endurance.
