The crowdfunding campaign to resurrect Uta Macross, the iconic rhythm title from the legendary Macross franchise, proved its enduring popularity by obliterating its initial 30,000,000 yen (approximately $190,000) target within a single hour of opening on September 10. All initial stretch goals were instantly cleared, securing additional track selections and funding development for dedicated console hardware alongside the previously announced PC and mobile editions.
Momentum for the project continued to surge past all expectations, with total contributions skyrocketing past 114,000,000 yen (roughly $735,300) as the campaign moves toward its October 31 closing date. AUGUST Inc. structured the revived offline version to preserve the beloved live service elements while restructuring the experience for modern platforms including Steam, iOS, and Android.
Franchise Legacy and Offline Evolution
Originally launched on mobile devices in August 2017 before concluding its live service run in June 2022, Uta Macross united iconic vocalists, pilots, and timeless musical anthems spanning the entire history of the sci-fi franchise. Players engaged with beloved characters from The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta.
While carrying over popular content from its previous live service version, including live performances and artwork, the game is being rebuilt for release on Steam, iOS, and Android.
