Following its service shutdown in 2022, the fan-favorite rhythm title Uta Macross Smartphone De Culture is returning to life as a dedicated buy-to-play release titled Uta Macross. Publisher AUGUST Inc., led by producer Kei Hirono, has announced a full reconstruction of the game in collaboration with license holder BIGWEST, original development studio xeen, and former operator DeNA. The revamped project is slated to launch on Steam, iOS, and Android in spring 2027.
Reworked Mechanics
Rather than relying on mobile live-service mechanics, the new edition transitions to a standalone, premium package model. The core controls and user interface are being redesigned from the ground up to support mouse-and-keyboard gameplay on PC alongside standard touch controls on mobile devices. The base game is slated to include around 50 curated songs spanning across The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta.
Players will start with more than 1,000 plates of 4-star rarity or higher, alongside 20 unique costumes per Valkyrie idol. The gacha system designed for rarity upgrades is now entirely free and unconstrained by microtransactions. The production team also plans to release multiple DLC packages at launch to restore the remaining song library and cosmetic catalogs from the original mobile operation.
Community Crowdfunding
To fund further platform expansions and extra song DLC, a crowdfunding campaign will launch on CAMPFIRE in September 2026. Producer Kei Hirono shared his perspective on the initiative:
This project was initiated entirely by the passionate requests and voices of fans wishing for the return of Uta Macross. We are determined to honor that passion and create an experience where as many players as possible can enjoy this title across multiple platforms.
