The eagerly anticipated Kusuriya no Hitorigoto The Movie: The Treasure of the Deceased Consort has officially confirmed that acclaimed singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu will provide the theme song, titled Haru ga Tomori. Alongside this musical announcement, TOHO animation STUDIO has delivered a striking new trailer previewing the song, a dramatic key visual, and comprehensive character relationship diagrams.
Based on the immensely popular light novel series written by Natsu Hyuuga and illustrated by Touko Shino—which has shattered milestones with over 57 million copies circulating worldwide—the franchise continues its dominant cultural run. Following the massive streaming success of the television anime's second season and the ongoing broadcast of the third season, the theatrical outing shifts Maomao and Jinshi away from the familiar confines of the imperial inner court and into the treacherous southern territories of Minanshu.
The Musical Vision and Narrative Scope
Discussing the creative process behind Haru ga Tomori, Kenshi Yonezu shared that his primary inspiration came from traditional Japanese nursery rhymes rather than conventional cinematic scoring. By incorporating stylistic motifs reminiscent of classic children's songs like Tulip and Antagata Dokosa, the artist crafted a hauntingly nostalgic melody designed to underscore the emotional weight of Maomao's journey.
The narrative kicks off when Jinshi is tasked with fulfilling the final wish of a mid-ranking consort who passed away five years prior: to return her remarkably preserved body to her native homeland. Joined by the tenacious poison-taster Maomao, the delegation encounters the Min clan, local water bandits hunting for a hidden fortune, and a bizarre string of escalating crimes that includes the theft of the consort's head and the kidnapping of a young nobleman.
The newly unveiled theatrical poster highlights this shift in scale, capturing a battle-worn Maomao and Muqing alongside a sword-wielding Jinshi, Gaoshun, and the enigmatic members of the Snake-derived bandit faction. Helmed by director Narihiro Naganuma with screenplay composition by Yuko Kakihara, the film features returning vocal performances from Aoi Yuuki as Maomao and Takeo Otsuka as Jinshi.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto The Movie: The Treasure of the Deceased Consort is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release in Japan on December 11, 2026, distributed by Toho.
