During the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026, Kadokawa made a major announcement for fans of contemporary light novels, confirming that Kien Aien’s Kochira, Shūmatsu Teitai Iinkai. (This Is the End Stagnation Committee.) series is officially receiving an anime adaptation. The news brings the quirky urban fantasy series into the animation spotlight.
Premise and Origins
The narrative of Kochira, Shūmatsu Teitai Iinkai. explores an unorthodox apocalyptic setting where the end of the world is happening right under humanity's collective nose. The plot follows a subterranean ecosystem of bizarre entities—including unusual creatures lurking beneath Tokyo's Shinobazu Pond, a colossal snail perched atop the Eiffel Tower, and a demon lord bearing the appearance of a striking young woman. Despite these ominous supernatural forces, a resilient underground circle of teenagers chooses to fight back against the creeping doom rather than yield to despair.
While they cannot entirely avert the cataclysm, their efforts successfully stall the timeline of ruin. For these youthful combatants, battling anomalies is simply part of their ordinary routine, treating daily survival as an ongoing ritual festival.
