The highly anticipated television anime adaptation of Takeru Hokazono's dark sword-action manga Kagurabachi has revealed a new character visual and promotional video for Soshiro Azami. Alongside the preview material, studio Cypic confirmed that prominent voice actor Yuichi Nakamura will step into the role of Azami for the April 2027 broadcast.
Serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump and boasting a digital circulation surpassing four million copies, Kagurabachi follows Chihiro Rokuhira, a young blacksmithing apprentice whose peaceful life with his legendary father Kunishige is shattered by the mysterious sorcerer syndicate known as the Hishaku. Armed with the seventh enchanted blade, Enten, Chihiro embarks on a relentless path of vengeance across a dark, sword-locked underworld.
Azami's Role and Studio PedigreeThe newly unveiled character media highlights Soshiro Azami, a powerful sorcerer operating within the Kamunabi organization. As one of the rare individuals privy to Chihiro's covert existence, Azami combines immense physical strength with brutal combat capability. Director Tetsuaki Takeuchi is leading the production at Cypic, directing a stellar voice cast that already includes Taichi Kimura as Chihiro, Tomokazu Seki as Kunishige, Katsuyuki Konishi as Togo Shiba, Miyu Tomita as Hinao, and Reina Ueda as Sharu Kagunagi.
Reflecting on his casting, Nakamura shared his enthusiasm for the project after tearing through the source material. “I was so hooked by how compelling the story was that I read through all the existing volumes in one go,” Nakamura noted, expressing eagerness to see the manga's intense action sequences translated to animation. He also contrasted Azami's pragmatic realism with Shiba's romanticism, adding depth to the syndicate's complex dynamics.
Cast Commentary
Discussing his approach to the character during recording sessions, Nakamura emphasized maintaining a balance with the wider ensemble. “I approached Azami with the mindset of someone who is serious yet carries a distinct dryness to his demeanor,” he explained. When asked to summarize the appeal of Kagurabachi in a single phrase, Nakamura simply offered: “Brilliance!”
