The highly anticipated Kagurabachi anime adaptation has expanded its principal cast, announcing that veteran voice actor Yuichi Nakamura will portray Soshiro Azami. The casting reveal is accompanied by a dedicated character visual and preview trailer, building momentum toward the series' scheduled April 2027 premiere.
Studio Cypic is spearheading animation production, with Tetsuya Takeuchi—acclaimed for his stellar work on the iconic Rock Lee versus Gaara sequence in Naruto—directing the project. Character designs are managed by Keigo Sasaki, while production is led by Shochiku and CyberAgent. Azami, a formidable sorcerer affiliated with the Kamunabi organization, stands as one of the elite few privy to Chihiro's closely guarded existence.
Character Insights and Production Vision
Reflecting on his new role, Nakamura noted the meticulous balancing act required for Azami's character dynamics.
Although there are still relatively few characters, I paid close attention to how he balances with the others. This should really pay off when a lot more characters start appearing later on…! I approached the role viewing him as someone who is serious, yet carries a bit of a dry demeanor.
Yuichi Nakamura, Voice Actor
Nakamura also shared his appreciation for Takeru Hokazono’s original manga serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump, describing the narrative as possessing a uniquely incandescent energy and praising its striking worldbuilding alongside the relentless action choreography.
The broader voice cast features Taihi Kimura as Chihiro Rokuhira, Tomokazu Seki as Kunishige Rokuhira, Katsuyuki Konishi as Togo Shiba, Miku Ito as Hinao, and Miyari Nemoto as Char Kyonagi. Ahead of its broadcast debut, the adaptation has maintained a robust global presence through international convention preview screenings spanning Anime Expo, Japan Expo, and Anime NYC.
The narrative follows young Chihiro Rokuhira on a relentless, blood-soaked path of vengeance after mysterious sorcerers slaughter his swordsmith father and steal the six legendary Enchanted Blades. Armed with the seventh blade, Enten, Chihiro confronts an underworld of yakuza and rival sorcerers.
