The official website for the acclaimed voice actress idol unit i☆Ris delivered bittersweet news to fans on Sunday, confirming that the group will officially conclude all musical and performance activities by the end of 2027. This final chapter coincides directly with the ensemble's 15th anniversary. According to the announcement, members and management staff spent extensive discussions evaluating the future trajectory of both the collective and their individual solo careers before arriving at this mutual decision.
A Legacy in Anime and Music
Formed in July 2012 as a joint venture between Avex and 81 Produce following the AniSon Vocal Audition, i☆Ris carved out a distinct space in the industry by bridging the gap between traditional idol performance and professional seiyū work. Comprising Saki Yamakita, Yū Serizawa, Himika Akaneya, Yūki Wakai, and Miyu Kubota—alongside former member Azuki Shibuya, who graduated in 2021—the unit became a staple of franchise animation.
Over their active years, the group contributed memorable theme songs to a diverse roster of anime series, including Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live, Twin Star Exorcists, and more recently, Honō no Tōkyūjo: Dodge Danko. Beyond musical contributions, all original six members starred centrally in the 2014 PriPara television anime, earning them the Singing Award at the 10th Annual Seiyū Awards in 2016.
Looking Toward the Finale
The unit's 10th anniversary featured major cinematic milestones, including the theatrical release of i☆Ris the Movie -Full Energy!!- and a dedicated documentary in 2024. As the group prepares for its eventual retirement, fans still have ample opportunity to celebrate their legacy, starting with the upcoming 14th anniversary live performance scheduled for November 3 at the Yokohama Arena.
