Iconic Japanese rock band SCANDAL has officially announced that the group will disband on August 21, 2027. Following their 20th anniversary concert, members Haruna, Mami, Tomomi, and Rina shared a joint statement reflecting on their two-decade journey, explaining that all four musicians feel they have fully realized their collective creative vision and achieved everything they set out to do together.
A Farewell Journey
Rather than an immediate departure, SCANDAL is giving fans an extended farewell roadmap spanning the next three years. Starting in October, the four-piece rock outfit will launch a massive nationwide tour covering all 47 Japanese prefectures. The band's final performance will take place at Yokohama Arena on August 21, 2027, bringing their career to a grand close.
An Enduring Anime Legacy
Formed in Osaka in 2006 while still in high school, SCANDAL rose to international acclaim and became one of the most recognizable rock bands tied to anime pop culture. Throughout their career, they provided unforgettable theme songs for prominent anime series and films, leaving a lasting imprint on the industry soundscape:
- Bleach (Opening 10: "Shojo S", Opening 15: "HARUKAZE")
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Ending 4: "Shunkan Sentimental")
- Star Driver (Ending 1: "Pride")
- GeGeGe no Kitarō
- Highspeed Étoile
- Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction
Beyond studio recordings, SCANDAL built an expansive international fanbase through energetic overseas tours across North America, Europe, and Asia. Their two-decade history stands as one of the longest-running unchanged lineups in modern Japanese rock history.
