The October 2026 broadcast of Hotaru no Yomeiri (Hotaru's Bride) Episode 3, titled "The Watchful Rat," brought an abrupt wave of tension and psychological dread. Based on Oreco Tachibana’s smash-hit manga boasting over five million circulating copies, the historical romantic suspense series follows a terminally ill Meiji-era noblewoman and her fiercely devoted, unhinged killer companion.
Following their escape to the isolated Tennyo Island, Episode 3 placed Satoko inside the Isekichi pleasure house as she sought an exit strategy. Eishin Nitobe appeared initially as an amiable gentleman, but intoxication completely dismantled his polite facade, revealing a violently abusive and unstable predator. Fans took to social media to express shock at the dramatic personality shift, while also praising Kazuyuki Okitsu's chilling vocal performance in balancing charming affluence with unhinged malice.
Shinpei's Devotion Faces Ultimate peril
Meanwhile, Shinpei's obsessive, protective affection for Satoko continued to captivate audiences. However, the emotional high stakes turned deadly in the episode's closing moments when Shinpei rushed to shield Satoko from Eishin's assault, taking a gunshot that leaves his fate hanging in the balance ahead of the October 30 broadcast.
Produced by david production under the direction of Takahiro Kamei, the series airs weekly on Fuji TV's prestigious Noitamina block. The stellar staff also includes series composition by Yuko Kakihara and character designs by Yukiko Aikei, anchored by gripping voice work from Lynn as Satoko and Kouki Uchiyama as Shinpei.
