During their industry panel at New York Comic Con 2026, Dark Horse made a striking series of announcements that bridge legendary manga creators with western comic publishing. Among the most anticipated reveals was the upcoming release of acclaimed manga-ka Gou Tanabe's The Outsider and Other Early Adaptations, translated by Zack Davisson. This new collection spotlights Tanabe's atmospheric adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's haunting short story, alongside early manga interpretations of literary works by Anton Chekhov and Maxim Gorky.
Tanabe has built an incredible reputation for translating Lovecraftian cosmic horror into meticulous, spine-chilling sequential art. His previous works with Dark Horse—including At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and The Call of Cthulhu (which won the Bram Stoker Award in 2025)—have earned critical acclaim across the globe. This new omnibus collection highlights his early artistic progression before tackling the massive mythos tales he is celebrated for today.
Hiroyuki Takei's Martial War
In addition to literary horror, Dark Horse revealed Martial War, an ambitious new graphic novel created in collaboration with the UFC. Inspired by real-world mixed martial arts bouts, the project is spearheaded by legendary Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei alongside co-creators Will Carter and Aidan White. The story follows a young outcast named Trash who infiltrates the Octagon—a brutal arena where disgraced ninja fight using the mystical power of Tatara stones.
Featuring art assistance by Jet Kusamura and lettering by Eisner Award nominee Steve Dutro, Martial War is scheduled to maintain an authentic right-to-left reading order. Dark Horse also announced Blue Eye Samurai: Cry of the Yurei by writers K. Perkins and Mike Johnson, continuing a massive wave of high-profile comic and manga licensing announcements.
