Dark Horse Manga used its panel at Anime NYC to announce a major expansion of Hideyuki Kikuchi and Yoshitaka Amano's gothic horror universe. The publisher confirmed plans to release two distinct graphic storytelling projects within the iconic franchise, bringing fresh creative interpretations to the legendary half-vampire protagonist.
The centerpiece of the announcement is Vampire Hunter D: Fortress of Blood, a four-issue American comic book series scheduled to debut on December 16. The creative team features writer Chris Condon alongside artist Filipe Andrade. Rounding out the artistic lineup are colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer Frank Cvetkovic, with variant covers designed by industry heavyweights Riccardo Federici and original franchise illustrator Yoshitaka Amano.
In addition to the American comic series, Dark Horse will publish the English translation of Vampire Hunter D: Rose Princess in March 2027. Authored by Saiko Takaki, this manga adaptation covers the ninth volume of Kikuchi's expansive novel series. The narrative follows D and a rebellious young woman named Elena as they confront an immortal vampire princess and her deadly royal knights.
Hideyuki Kikuchi expressed profound appreciation for the ongoing global reach of his creation, noting his excitement to see the Japanese literary property reimagined through the lens of Western comic book traditions.
