KADOKAWA's vertical scroll webcomic Haru to Gen: 70-sai, Hajimete no Kosodate (Haru and Gen: Raising a Child for the First Time at 70) is officially making the transition to television. Announced through a collaboration between Imagica Infos and Dai Nippon Printing under their joint 'Animation ID' initiative, the heartwarming family drama has locked in a January 2027 premiere on TVK (Television Kanagawa). Alongside the adaptation greenlight, production executives released the premier key visual and launched the official X (formerly Twitter) account to chronicle the series' development.
Written and illustrated by Yuka Oshima, the original manga follows Gen, a 70-year-old widower who unexpectedly takes in his three-year-old granddaughter Haru after the tragic passing of his daughter. Navigating the exhausting, perplexing realities of modern toddler-rearing decades past his prime, Gen discovers a renewed sense of purpose. The narrative explores generational gaps, quiet grief, and the resilient bonds of family through tender, humorous moments. The anime will adopt a short-format presentation to capture the brisk comedic timing and cozy atmosphere of Oshima's original work.
