New York City's Japan Society has scheduled the United States premiere of Grotesqqque, the forthcoming original theatrical feature directed by industry veteran Atsushi Nishigori. Presented in partnership with animation studio CloverWorks and distributor Aniplex of America, the screening takes place on October 8, featuring an in-person stage introduction by Nishigori ahead of the screening.
Three Distinct Visions
Conceived as an omnibus cinematic experience, Grotesqqque branches into three standalone segments featuring contrasting visual directions and tonal settings:
- "A(E)liens"
- "Yoroshiku★Girl" (4649 Girl)
- "Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque"
Nishigori, widely recognized for helming DARLING in the FRANXX and The IDOLM@STER, takes full creative reins here, handling direction, original character designs, and screenplay duties across the production. The musical landscape features opening theme "Shoot Shoot Shoot" performed by heavy-metal outfit METALVERSE, accompanied by an ending theme performed by Haoto with lyrics penned by momosu momosu.
The JOEN Initiative
The film marks an ambitious showcase under JOEN, the joint production venture established by Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio, and publishing giant Shueisha to facilitate auteur-driven projects. Managed by producers Yuichi Fukushima and Tetsuya Nakatake, the initiative pools elite animation pipelines into targeted creative ventures. Following its world premiere at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival earlier this summer, Grotesqqque arrives in Japanese theaters nationwide on November 6.
