Director Atsushi Nishigori, renowned for his work on The IDOLM@STER and DARLING in the FRANXX, returns with an ambitious original project titled Grotesqqque. The official website for the film recently confirmed that the upcoming theatrical feature will incorporate the track "TERASE," performed by musical contributor Mika Ichinose and written, scored, and arranged by singer-songwriter Ken Kamikita. Alongside the single release, producers launched a special collaboration music video showcasing early footage from the production.
The film adopts a distinctive omnibus format, splitting its narrative runtime across three distinct thematic stories with unique worldviews: "A(E)liens", "Yoroshiku★Girl", and "Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque". Backing these vignettes is an expansive roster of 35 musical acts, with the band METALVERSE handling the primary opening theme song "Shoot Shoot Shoot," alongside an ending theme performed by Haoto with lyrics penned by momosu momosu.
Production Lineage and Premiere
Developed under the joint production initiative JOEN—established by Sony’s Aniplex, CloverWorks, Wit Studio, and publisher Shueisha—the film boasts a powerhouse creative pedigree. Representatives Yūichi Fukushima of CloverWorks and Tetsuya Nakatake of Wit Studio oversee the venture, bringing top-tier industry resources to Nishigori's multi-layered vision.
Following an international spotlight with a world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and a U.S. screening hosted by the Japan Society in New York City, Grotesqqque is scheduled for its official theatrical opening in Japan on November 6.
