Veteran manga creator Erica Sakurazawa is preparing to debut a new reflective essay manga titled Watashi no Manga (Mayoi) Michi (translated as My [Lost] Road to Manga). The project will officially launch in the December issue of Shodensha's josei periodical Feel Young, scheduled to hit shelves on November 6.
The upcoming title is described as a retrospective essay series chronicling behind-the-scenes accounts and personal recollections from "that era," documenting the formative chapters of Sakurazawa's professional career. Known for her delicate character studies and candid depictions of modern romance, Sakurazawa has long served as an influential voice in adult women's manga.
A Prolific Josei Legacy
Sakurazawa has remained consistently active in recent years across diverse publications. In June 2024, she launched Paris 1921―Sasori-za no Onna to Shishi-za no Onna (Paris 1921―Scorpio Woman and Leo Woman) on Sekaibunkasha's Kateigaho.com platform, tracing the intertwining artistic lives of painter Marie Laurencin and fashion pioneer Coco Chanel. Her previous serial, Koi wa Okane ja Kaemasen (Can't Buy Love with Money), concluded in Shueisha's office YOU magazine in late 2022 across four volumes.
For English-speaking readers, Sakurazawa was introduced broadly during the mid-2000s when publisher Tokyopop released the Erica Sakurazawa Collected Works line. That curation brought several of her cornerstone titles into western circulation, including Angel, Between the Sheets, and The Aromatic Bitters. Additionally, her acclaimed yuri story Love Vibes was adapted into the 2010 live-action film Kakera: A Piece of Our Life directed by Momoko Ando.
