Less than a year after its North American debut, digital distribution platform MANGA MIRAI has officially announced it will shut down service on December 15. Launched in March 2025 with the aim of connecting global audiences with original series and previously untranslated titles, the storefront represents one of the shortest-lived major digital manga initiatives in recent years.
Migration and Refund Terms
To preserve reader libraries, MANGA MIRAI has partnered with NTT Solmare to migrate active user accounts and digital purchases to MangaPlaza. Readers must complete this account link by September 30. The service confirmed that refunds may be available for users who opt out of the transfer, those under MangaPlaza's age threshold of 18, or readers whose purchased titles lack active licensing parity on the receiving platform.
Corporate Shifting
The joint enterprise was originally established through a heavyweight coalition featuring NTT Docomo, Akatsuki Group, digital distributor Media Do, and community portal MyAnimeList. However, corporate restructuring disrupted the foundation early on: shortly after the platform's launch, Media Do divested its entire stake in MyAnimeList to Web3 and AI enterprise Gaudiy. The quick sunsetting of MANGA MIRAI highlights the hyper-competitive pressure and licensing complexities currently governing the Western digital manga market.
